Master of Arts in Educational Technology
Immediately following graduation, I began to consider my next step in education. Fall 2012, I began taking courses for my MAET while making the move to North Carolina and starting my first year of teaching. Going into the fall of my second year of teaching, I have completed 12 credit hours and maintain a 4.0 gpa. As I have learned a great deal working with technology tools and designing lessons to integrate technology to best serve all students and learning styles. The most recent class has had a focus upon research in education, my topic of interest being writing workshops in the classroom. As we move toward Common Core Standard Course of Study, the emphasis on writing in all disciplines is evident. I am researching to propose a program for adoption in my school or district.
Below you will find feedback from professors in regards to my work in the courses:
CEP 810 (waived for completion of CEP 416)
Teaching for Understanding with Technology
CEP 811 Adapting Innovative Technologies for Education
"Linnea, you certainly are motivated as a first year teacher. It is obvious that you are already a teacher-leader. Education needs highly motivated teachers like yourself to bring a fresh perspective into teaching and learning.
Although you came into this course with a solid technology background, I am glad to hear that you were able to grow and push yourself. I'm glad that you have been able to implement some ideas right away. Be careful not to overdue it...baby steps! Someone very wise recently told me, "go slow to go fast"...meaning, make sure you have a good handle on something before diving in. Exploration is good, but make sure you don't overwhelm yourself and/or your students.
Keep up the great work! I'm sure you are ready to take a break from your 52 lovely children. :) Enjoy it. Refresh yourself for the second half of the year!
Thank you for all of your hard work in CEP 811"
CEP 812 Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice
"Very thorough, reflective, encouraging, and challenging post. It is apparent that the implementation of your project was successful, yet, it is still a work in progress, and there is still so much to do! Additionally, you have thoughtfully reflected on feedback given throughout the project. As a result, the emphasis of your project changed slightly. Your ability to work with, and listen to, colleagues will greatly benefit you as you continue your career as an educator.
I really like how you stated --> "It is important not to just throw technologies at a problem and hope that they solve the problem, it is necessary to really work through the problem and think about what is working, how the technology is aiding the content, and if the technology is truly solving the problem." Your perspective is refreshing, and will help you out as you continue utilizing technology in the classroom.
Best wishes as you work on your final project!"
"Keep it up...and keep learning! I appreciate how student and parent-centered you are! Thank you for making a difference."

Action Research Paper - 25/25 Excellent reflection Linnea! You really did an exceptional job of reflecting on how the lesson facilitated student learning (and helped clear up misconceptions), and how it might work in the future. I like that you structured it with a good amount of scaffolding, taking the students through the process and then gradually allowing them to take more responsibility. I think the technologies you were using had some useful affordances (especially visually, which can be really useful for memory retention) in helping your students to better understand the chronology. This was one of the better reflective pieces I’ve seen for this assignment, and you’re doing an amazing job of being very reflective about your own teaching and considering all of the possibilities for future work. Nice job! 25/25 points
Essential Questions - 5/5
Lesson Plan 15/15
Your grade for this semester is a 4.0 -- well done! There was a great deal of intensive reading, discussion and projects in this course, and to come out of it with a 4.0 means that we thought you did an excellent job of being insightful and detailed in the module work, readings and discussions, and that your projects were of the highest caliber.
CEP 822 Approaches to Educational Research
"Great job on your introduction and background statement for your research project Linnea. You have laid the foundations for what looks to be a fascinating study, and one that I’m interested to see evolve this semester. You present a very interesting issue in the field of education, and one that is increasingly relevant as more and more states make the switch to Common Core standards. I think the question that you ask about the best practices for upper elementary students is going to be a central issue that we’ll be in need of ideas on in the coming years. So this study is well positioned with significant questions. In writing your intro statement, you also did a nice job of discussing some of the personal relevance of the research questions to your background, and highlighting some important researchers that you will be considering as your study evolves. All in all, this is quite a good introduction statement, which should lead you well into the coming sections of your research proposal. Nice work!"
